The Britania Mountain Fire was reportedly at 32,089 acres and 89% containment, as of a report from the Britania Fire Facebook page Tuesday night.
The lightning-caused fire has been burning approximately 6 miles from the community of Wheatland, on the border of Platte and Albany Counties, since the morning of August 26th.
As of last night’s report, there are 350 personnel assigned to the incident. This is down from a number that peaked at just slightly over 500 this weekend.
Today at 7:00 am a Wyoming State Type 3 Incident Management Team and Incident Commander Dick Terry took command of the Britania Mountain Fire.
According to a written statement from officials on scene, the transition is part of a “natural progression of events as the percentage of containment increases and fire activity begins to decrease, threats to the values at risk are reduced.”
The statement goes on to say that the Type 3 Team will retain sufficient resources to suppress the fire while right-sizing the organization.
