Officials are saying the Britania Fire has grown to 24,000 acres and is approximately 1/3rd contained.
Wednesday night also saw mandatory evacuations for some areas.
Mandatory evacuations were given to the Palmer Canyon area of both Platte and Albany counties. An evacuation center in Wheatland has been established at the Services for Seniors Annex, 809 16th Street.
“The fire is currently 24,105 acres and is 33% contained,” a statement said via Facebook, on Thursday. “Rocky Mountain Area Type 2 Incident Management Team Black assumed command of the fire at 6 am this morning.”
Officials say that 150 – 200 firefighters are reportedly on the scene, including one crew from Florida. More crews were expected to arrive, yesterday.
Eric D. Rush, Security Specialist at Camp Guernsey, said in a written statement yesterday that crews were being hindered by dry and windy weather conditions, as well as difficult terrain.
“High winds and Red Flag conditions are forecasted in the fire area for at least the next two days,” Rush wrote Wednesday. “Making efforts to increase containment problematic.”
