‘But what I really want to do is direct’- Stage III hosts directing workshop

On Saturday, August 11, Stage III Community Theatre is set to host a directing workshop.

Award-winning director Rick Bumgardner will guide participants through the entire process from script to performance. The workshop will cover aspects of research, script analysis, vision, communication, implementation, and refining.

According to Stage III, Bumgardner has worked with the likes of Dee Wallace, Mauricio Bustamante, Chaka Khan, Karla Burns, and Dick Brown. Bumgardner has just completed productions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and the the world premiere of Baby Jane, The Musical.

Stage III goes on to say that Bumgardner is the Artistic Director of Roxy’s Downtown in Wichita, Kansas.

Kris Kontour, general manager of Stage III, says that he hopes participants will learn “the basics of directing and what it takes to direct” a production.

More workshops with theatre professionals are in the works for Stage III, according to Kontour, including acting workshops and summer camps for kids interested in theatre.

The directing workshop will run from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday August 11th.

The event is free and open to the public.
