Casper Fire-EMS has released information about a structure fire in North Casper, during the early morning hours, Wednesday.
According to a press release sent Wrdnesday morning, Casper Fire-EMS was called to a structure fire in the 200 block of East H Street just after 12:30 AM. Firefighters arrived to find a single-family residence with smoke in the attic. After a short time, crews located a small fire and extinguished it. The fire was contained to the attic.
The occupants of the residence evacuated prior to arrival of firefighters and no injuries were reported. It is unknown at this time if smoke detectors alerted them to the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and appears to be caused by an electrical malfunction.
Damage to the residence is primarily limited to the attic and electrical system. Firefighters removed some ceiling to gain full access to the fire and extinguish it. The living areas of the home received light smoke damage. A dollar amount of damage is not yet available. As a result of damage to the structure and electrical system, occupants will likely be unable to return until repairs can be made.
Casper Fire-EMS was assisted by the Wyoming Medical Center and Casper Police Department. In all, four units along with a Battalion Chief initially responded. Crews remain on scene completing overhaul assuring complete extinguishment.
Casper Fire-EMS would is reminding residents that smoke detectors save lives. Each level of a home should have a minimum of one working smoke detector.
